Cochrane Partners TourProject DescriptionOften, when traveling as part of a large tour group, the individual tourist feels like a number instead of a person. Many tourist operators can accommodate large groups but at a personal cost. The Cochrane Partners Tour provides service to mid-to-large sized touring groups with all the personal touches still included. The tour operates from late June until September to coincide with the Polar Bear Express train that brings thousands of visitors to the area each year. The Cochrane Partners Tour not only serves as a tourist attraction but as a means of educating people about sustainable forest management and offering them the opportunity to witness it first-hand. The tour's official stops are at the Norboard Plywood Plant, New Post First Nation, Birch Hill Nursery and Wade Lake Interpretive Centre. What is also included, but not listed on any brochures, are the little anecdotes that really give each location, plus the en route passage, their flavor. A project of the Education and Information Program Committee, the Cochrane Partners Tour has received financial or in-kind contributions from the Lake Abitibi Model Forest, the Cochrane Board of Trade, the Cochrane and Area Community Development Corp. and the Town of Cochrane.
