Forest Management Practices and Forest Productivity

Maintaining or enhancing a viable wood supply to mills using the Lake Abitibi Model Forest is both desirable and possible. The calculation of an annual allowable cut on a given forest is the result of a great deal of planning and analysis, taking many variables and factors into consideration. Projects that examine forest management practices and forest productivity are essential in that they provide better data and information that result in more informed decisions, particularly with respect to wood fibre production and wood volume.

During Phase II, three projects focused on forest management practices and forest productivity. The results garnered from these initiatives have been of benefit to forest managers and planners in that they help to present more accurate and realistic set of scenarios that may result from the adoption of new practices.
