Television Commercials

With the success of ‘The Forest Around Us’ television series during Phase I, the Public Awareness and Knowledge Transfer Technical Sub-committee initiated the production and airing of a series of television commercials that continued to promote and raise awareness of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest. By producing these television commercials, the LAMF’s name, visual identity, and activities were promoted to a broad public audience.

The television commercials introduced the public to the idea of what a ‘model forest’ was and featured highlights from some of the LAMF’s most innovative projects, including Caribou research studies and Careful Logging techniques. A number of special events, including the Northeast Science and Technology Workshop were also mentioned and advertised through the commercials.

The Model Forest received a number of ‘free’ commercial spots through this project, as a result of Mid-Canada Television categorizing LAMF commercials as ‘filler’. By doing this, the LAMF commercial spots ran whenever there was unallocated commercial space on regional stations. It was generally recognized that this free commercial time had tremendous value.

Each commercial was 30-seconds in length. Positive comments were received, with many people expressing that their first exposure to the LAMF had occurred through these advertisements. Feedback from partners indicated that the commercials had definitely been successful in increasing awareness of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest over-all, its name, visual identity, and its goals and objectives. Partners for this project include Lake Abitibi Model Forest members and MCTV.
