Awareness Signs It is important that the general public, including local people, tourists or those just passing through the area know about the existence of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest. Four awareness signs were produced early in Phase I with the intention of raising this level of knowledge for people traveling along major highway corridors. The signs were also strategically positioned at the entrances to Cochrane and Iroquois Falls. Over time, the original signs became weathered, and somewhat outdated. In 1998-99 the Public Awareness and Knowledge Transfer Committee initiated a project to update these four ‘awareness’ signs. The objective of updating the signs was to improve their aesthetic impact, and to continue to draw greater attention to LAMF’s existence. The signs themselves were rewritten and redesigned by LAMF staff, and then produced by a local company. Feedback with respect to the updated signs has been positive. People found them to be attractive and more noticeable to passing motorists. They are contributing to the general level of awareness of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest. Partners for this project included the members of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest.
