The Model Forest NetworkThe Model Forest Program was created by the Government of Canada through the Canadian Forest Service. Its purpose is to help resolve the issues and challenges facing forests across the country, in both the present and the future. The ultimate goal of individual model forests and the network is sustainable forest management through partnerships that represent and recognize all forest values. A major objective of the model forest program is to allow an open and equal forum where differing perspectives can be presented, knowledge can be shared, and understanding of opinions and needs of all forest users can be enhanced. Partners can join together to bring about new methods and practices that contribute to local and national sustainable forest management. In addition, individual model forests are expected to operate as outdoor laboratories for forest science and research projects that bring about new management approaches and techniques that are eventually transferred to operational use. Model forest partners are pervasively involved in helping to set the direction and use of the working forest(s) that make up their model forest. As an organization, an individual Model Forest does not override the legal rights and privileges of participating landowners and forest managers. www.modelforest.netMembers of the Model Forest NetworkNote: Components of this map are clickable.
