Susanne Parton

CS Enterprises

Susanne Parton is an Ontario Registered Professional Forester, and has over 23 years of experience in the forestry profession. Susanne is presently the General Manager of CS Enterprises, forestry company of Moose Cree First Nation. She is based out of Cochrane, Ontario, managing an industrial garage and annual forest operations of over 500,000 m³. Sue is also involved in pursuing strategic initiatives and development opportunities in forestry, as well as building capacity within the Moose Cree First Nation Community.

Sue has worked for the Ontario Provincial Government in various capacities for 16 years, was General Manager of Lake Abitibi Model Forest - a non-profit corporation for 6 years, and has been the General Manager of CS Enterprises since February of 2005. Sue’s experience is broad-ranging, and includes First Nations forestry; forest legislation, practices and issues across Canada; forest inventory; forest operations; silviculture and forest management; ecosystem research; vegetation ecology; soils classification; project management; auditing; volunteer boards and stakeholders; public education; facilitation; negotiation; and computer modeling. Sue also has a special interest in the social sciences: community sustainability, economic diversification, and community involvement.

Sue has successfully developed and implemented numerous research initiatives, and has authored or assisted in the preparation of six forest management plans. Sue has extensive experience in Ontario’s forest management legislation and planning process, including training, plan review, requesting required alterations, plan approval, review of plan amendments, public consultation, and working with local citizens committees. She has a long history of working with First Nation Communities, which has led to her present position.

Sue is very active in her local community of Cochrane. She is the Chair of the Cochrane Public Library Board, a Director of the Cochrane Board of Trade, a Director of the Lake Abitibi Model Forest, and a member of the Cochrane District Local Citizens Committee.

Sue lives in Cochrane with her husband and two children. They share their home with two dogs, two cats, and schools of fish.

Sue is the recipient of two awards:

  •  Gene H. Kruger Award 2000 formally recognizing her paper on Harvesting with Regeneration Protection research as “the best paper of the current year on forest protection, or environmental or product quality management systems”.
  • The “2001 Sustainable Forests Award” from WoodWorks, through the Lake Abitibi Model Forest for accomplishments and dedication to education and sustainable forestry practices, as well as leadership in guaranteeing the healthy and productive future of our forests.
